Here is an update on the Lap Quilt group at Jenny’s Sewing Studio!
We have named the 3 groups. Our beginners are :
“Scrappy Quilters” which meet on the second Thursday
“Sew Fly” which meet on the third Thursday
and “Piece Makers” which meet on the 4th Thursday.
If you would like to join in the fun of learning to Lap Quilt you can now take “one on one” lessons to learn the basics. Lessons are 2 hours each and only $20.00 each. Once you get a start with the basics, I can introduce you to a club.
The Scrappy Quilters and the Sew Fly group will learn to do borders in their next club session. Each member is to purchase enough fabric to border all the blocks they are making for their quilt. The Lap Quilting book is specific on the yardage for each quilt size. Rule of thumb is to use your rotary cutter to cut 2- 3 1/2″ X 45″ strips for each pieced block. Homework is to purchase fabric for back and borders and cut the borders. Do not cut the backs yet. You will not size any borders until class. In lesson 4 we will learn to quilt the block and borders. Make sure you finish all the 4 patch blocks already started. To date we have constructed 4 patch, double 4 patch, rail fence, bow tie, pin wheel and double pin wheel.
Piece Makers is going to Paper Piece the lighthouse block is month. Bring 7″ square scraps to construct the block in class. In April we will do quilt labels and Jenny will introduce Seminole patchwork. Make sure you have your rotary cutter and about 3 or 4 solid colors to use. I will be send more detailed information soon.
In May Jenny will show you how to make the Double Irish Chain
