Beginning sewing class

bg-homepage-communityBeginner Sewing Basics – This is a “one on one” class. Learn to sew. Class is 2 – 3 hour sessions.  Classes can be scheduled any free day from 1:30 to 4:30pm. Click on this link to Enroll Now and we will then pick the day you wish to come.

Learn to thread and use your machine for straight stitch. Practice the basic seam allowances. Materials will be provided for 2 skill builder projects. Make a quick and easy project with a commercial pattern. Learn to read the pattern and guide sheet. Layout the pattern and cut the fabric for your project. Complete your pattern project in class.

Purchase your pattern Simplicity 2290/no pockets or Butterick 6742 or McCalls 8052 with side pockets. Patterns can be purchased on-line from Etsy. Purchase your 100% cotton print fabric before your first class. Pattern will call for about 2 3/4yds to 3 yards of 45″ wide fabric. I suggest using Hobby Lobby to purchase fabric, 3/4″ to 1″ non roll elastic and Sewology 100% polyester all-purpose thread.  Measure your hip circumference for pants size.

Purchase a basic cotton broadcloth print using the pattern requirements for yardage.  (no velour, fleece, sheers, plaids or knits.)  Also bring matching all purpose polyester thread and elastic to class.

A Sewing Machine can be provided on request. Basic sewing equipment can also be provided for class. I will cover the best notions and equipment you will need in class.

If you do not own a sewing machine, let me help you pick your first model to purchase in our 1st session. I will inform you of the best features to consider.
