Lap Quilt Club at MAC center!
Each month Jenny’s Sewing Studio will introduce a brand new quilting skill or Quilt block in our lecture demo Lap Quilt series at the MAC center in Salisbury, MD. Beginners are welcome. Sessions are only $5.00 each and will be scheduled in the Bradford room at 2:00 pm each month. You can enroll using my web site shopping cart at this link. You can also register at the door of the seminar with Jenny. It helps me plan hand outs and seating when you enroll in advance.
Our first meeting is Thursday January 31st at 2:00pm. The series will be lecture demonstration and you will learn the steps needed to start your quilt. Beginners are welcome. I will demonstrate some of the basic tools needed for quilting. This month I will also introduce electric quilt to help you visually understand how your quilt will look and how much yardage you will need to create your quilt. I have a few handouts to share. We will talk about fabric choices. I will make a few templates and sew a few seams using a 1/4″ foot. Plan on the session taking about 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Bring paper and pen for notes.
I suggest you purchase the Lap Quilting book which contains patterns for 70 Lap Quilt blocks. Attend as many months as you can and work along with me each month to complete your quilt. I will hold a Show and Tell session at the beginning of each club meeting starting in February.
Club meetings for 2019 will be January 31st, Feb 28th, Mar 28th, April 25th, May 30th, June 27th, July 25th, Aug 29th, September 26th, October 31st, November 21st and December 19th . Time for club is 2:00 pm.
Let’s start quilting! See you next Thursday January 31st at 2:00pm.
Lap Quilt Sew Along!
Bring your sewing machine and sew. Following each monthly Lap Quilt club meeting I will schedule a Lap Quilt Sew Along at my Sewing Studio at 1030 South Schumaker Dr, in Salisbury, MD. My first Sew Along for Lap Quilting is February 7, 2019. The fee is $20.00 per session. Enroll for the 1:30 – 3:30 pm session or the 6:30 to 8:30 session. Class is once a month. This class is designed to help all beginner quilters with hands on sewing help while you are constructing the quilt. Classes are limited to 6 sewers. You can enter by the front door unless there is snow on the walk, then come in the back door. I always clear the back walk.
Bring your sewing machine or reserve one of my machines to use in class. Bring Lap Quilting by Georgia Bonesteel, template plastic, a black sharpie marker, a wash away marker, clover chalk triangle for dark fabrics and a ruler to begin making templates for your quilt. You will need sharp bent handled scissors and straight pin for cutting. We will make a few templates and cut a few blocks. Let’s get started making your quilt.
For the quilt blocks I suggest you color coordinate at least 4 different 100% cotton fabric prints for your blocks. Bring at least one yard of 4 different fabrics to mark and cut. That way you have choices when designing the blocks. We can add more prints later. You can also buy additional yardage of a favorite print. The choices are up to you. Bring your fabrics and a neutral thread to class. It will speed things up if you have your bobbin filled and your machine threaded and are ready to sew. I will have plugs and places for sewing machines to set up and sew. I also have cutting mats available.
You can always bring scraps of 100% cotton fabrics and border the blocks later with a neutral color like off white or black. We will talk about borders, backing and binding in another class.
Bring a neutral color thread like off white or black.
I hope to see you in class. Questions? Email me at jenny@jennys-sewing-studio.com
