Join me for the Lap Quilt September Fall project. You can configure the maple leaf block into a seasonal wall quilt to display or do a table runner.
The Maple Leaf quilt block is from Georgia Bonesteel’s Lap Quilting book.
I have chosen to do 4 maple leaf quilt blocks and join them together with a border and corner stones. On Saturday September 18th we will construction the block. Bring a background, stem and a leaf fabric along with your templates (A triangle and E square) and fabric marking pen. This is a fairly basic block using 2 templates…E Square and A Triangle.
You can fast piece the 1/2 square triangle blocks. I did 4 maple leaf blocks and chose to do each maple leaf from a different fall fabric. The borders can be 3″ wide and for this project I pieced the blocks together using one border between and on the outside of the assembled blocks. 3″Corner stones can be used as accents in the border. I will quilt the entire wall quilt as one piece and bind the wall quilt with a contrast.
The following supplies are figured for the pictured wall quilt. You will need:
4 E squares for stems
1/4 yard background fabric (draw 16 triangles for quick piecing) also cut 8 E squares
1/4 yard for 4 leaves ( place right sides together of background fabric to leaf fabric for 1/2 square triangle quick piecing. You will also need 12 E squares to complete the leaves.)
3/8 yard of border and 1/8 yard for corner stones. The borders and corner stones are 3″ wide
1/4 yard for binding
finished wall quilt is 29″ square . You will need 1 yard of backing and batting .
