A great project for the beginning sewer is a piped throw pillow. I have instruction that one of my students composed and I edited. You can make any size pillow. We created a 16″ pillow which is perfect for the couch. The piped edge makes the pillow look professional. The pillow top can be almost anything.
I have made lots of pillow gifts. My favorite is when I use embroidery or lettering. For wedding I usually place the bride and grooms names and wedding date in the pillow. I like using built-in sewn writing the best and usually try to incorporate the writing into strip quilting. My favorite technique is using crazy quilting.
