This Mother’s Day I remade a purse for my mom. Her old purse had worn to a frazzle so I assembled my fabrics and notions and tried to document as much of the construction as possible using my cell phone camera. I do sell a revised instructional sheet on how the purse is made at this link. If you decide to make the purse, send me pictures of your inspiration.
Use Fuse and Tear on the wrong side of the contrast strip for flap to stabilize decorative stitches
Personalize the contrast strip
Sew a reinforcement square on the underside of flap for snap
Apply the contrast strip to the front flap
Use the stitch width on straight stitch to adjust the needle position while sewing in a zipper
Cut 2 1/2 inches from top edge of purse body. Serge edges. Apply zipper to top edge of purse body
Turn the zipper back and top stitch the zipper flap
Apply the front flap to top of zipper
Sandwich the front flap between the 2 1/2″ strip and the purse body
Serge edges and apply the inside pocket to purse body at top edge and then sew sides and bottom of the inside pocket. The pocket is accessed with zipper.
The snap is applied to the front pocket
sew a 2″ square off to bottom edges of purse at side seams.
