Prequilted shoulder bag
You will need:
1 yd pre quilted fabric
Thread to sew with
2- 18″ zipper to match
1/2 yd of contrast for binding
——————————-
-Cut 4 bias strips 1 ½” from contrast and piece together then serge one side to finish. (If you do not have a serger you will have cut the bias 2″ and press under ½” so you can top stitch the bias in place.)
–Cut a handle off on side of the fabric length 4 1/2″ to 6″ wide by 30″. Fold in half and stitch the long edge with a 1/4″ seam. Turn the handle to the right side using a looper turner.
–Front flap is cut 12 1/2″ X 10 ½” wide. Curve one short end. On the curved end apply one side of the magnetic snap. Cut a strip 3 ½” X 10 ½” of pre quilted fabric and reverse for trim detail on the flap. Press under ½ inch on each edge and top stitch the strip over the snap and down the flap center. Use decorative stitches to finish the border trim. Apply the bias to the curved edge. Press the bias to wrong side and stitch in the ditch.
–Cut the bag 24″ long X 14″ wide. Fold in half and cut a 2″ square out of each bottom corner at the fold. Cut one side of bag 2 ½” from the top to insert a zipper. Insert zipper to bottom half of bag cut. Use the top of bag section and insert the flap and top stitch in position. Insert the zipper over flap. Fold and top stitch zipper.
–Cut a pocket back 7″ long X 14″ wide and bind one edge with bias edge. Place the pocket behind the bag back and top stitch the bond edge in position one 1″ above the corner cut. Join the sides together to form the pocket and finish the back side
–Cut a pocket front 14″ X 5 ½” and place a chalk mark to divide the pocket in thirds. Use the bias to bind the top and the bottom of the pocket. Pin the pocket in position. Apply the other side of the snap to the pocket so the flap snap fits to the pocket socket. Stitch the pocket in place on the bag front 1″ above the bottom corner cut. Top stitch the pockets as marked.
-Join the side seams
-Sew the bottom corners
-Sew the handle in place on each side before you bind the top edge.
-Trim and bind the top edge to finish
The Wallet is cut 8″ X 12″. Fold the wallet fabric in half with the wrong sides facing you. The zipper is inserted closed and each end of the zipper will extend beyond the wallet. Place right side to wallet to right side of one zipper side and sew using a regular presser foot. Keep the foot edge along the zipper and fabric raw edge as you sew the zipper in position using a ¼” seam. Flip the wallet so you can sew the other side of the zipper to the opposite wallet top edge exactly as you sewed the first side. Make sure the wallet edges are even.
Open the zipper so the slide is inside the wallet and then sew up the side seams. You can box the bottom corners if you wish. Trim the zipper and turn the wallet to finish.
